The Agency for Traffic Safety of Republic of Serbia has celebrated two-year anniversary today, by organizing a gala party at the Palace of Serbia.
On that occasion, the Agency has handed over awards for courage and dedication in rescuing victims of road accidents and especially to drivers who in the moments of severe accidents came to the aid of victims and rescue them from a certain death or serious injuries. The awards went to Darko Tijanić from Kuršumlija, employed in JKP ‘Parking Servis', to Miloš Radovanović from Gornji Milanovac and Dragan Zejak from Zrenjanin.
To remind you, our colleague Darko Tijanić (24), saved a driver trapped in a capsized car by jumping in an icy river. On a Mayor Dragan Đilas' suggestion he was offered a full time job at the beginning of March this year.
President of Republic of Serbia Boris Tadić awarded Tijanić with Medal for Bravery ‘Miloš Obilić' for his act of bravery.
An award for improving the safety system in traffic in Republic of Serbia was given to the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić, who on this occasion announced activities aimed at reducing the number of causalities in the coming period by consistently applying the acts of law. Dačić reminded everybody that over the last two decades the number of lost lives on roads amounted to a mid sized town in Serbia.
The guests at the party were shown a promo film on the Agency's current plans and ongoing projects.
Agency Director Stojadin Jovanović pointed out to a huge work that the Agency had carried out since it was founded and announced a plan of activities for the next year. Jovanović said that over the two years since the Law on Safety in Traffic was passed the number of killed in car accidents reduced by 20% i.e. about 340 lives have been saved.
